It is the active form of vitamin B6, which comprises three natural organic compounds,  pyridoxal,  pyridoxamine and pyridoxine. This cofactor acts as an electron sink in order to stabilize carbanionic intermediates in both substitution and elimination reactions involving aminated compounds.
